Nintendo President Says Miiverse Is The Wii U’s Killer App

Nintendo apparently isn’t banking on a stellar launch line-up or first-party games to be the primary selling point of the Wii U. According to company president Reggie Fils-Aime, the Miiverse is most important.
In a discussion with AllThingsD, Fils-Aime stressed that the social interaction of Miiverse should be the driving factor behind all Wii U activity, especially outside of video games:
“I think that it will pleasantly surprise people,” he said. “As the network grows and the installed base grows, it will prove to be a true killer application for the system, and I say this loving what we have done with Nintendo TVii and loving all the games. Until you try it and experience it, you may not totally understand it.”
Fils-Aime also stated that Nintendo expected to sell 10 million Wii and Wii U consoles combined in the coming year. That would be a significant success—the original Wii currently boasts almost 100 million units sold in its lifecycle.
