Nintendo president worries that 3DS price drop might hurt the Wii U
Posted on August 3, 2011 AT 04:55pm

During a recent financial results meeting, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said the following: “With regard to the influence on the Wii U, what we have to take most seriously is that the price markdown could damage the trust of the consumers who bought the Nintendo 3DS just after the launch.”
At first, it might seem odd; why would the price drop for the 3DS hurt the Wii U? Thinking about it more, however, it makes sense.
If fans feel “betrayed” – and there some out there who do – by the price drop, those fans might not be as eager to run out and purchase a Wii U when it launches.
Potentially a bigger problem, however, is that with the drop coming so soon after the launch of the 3DS, consumers might wonder if the same is going to happen to the Wii U, and wait to see if the price is lowered instead of buying it at or soon after launch.
Hopefully this concern will mean one thing – that Nintendo is smarter and more careful about the launch price of the Wii U than they were the 3DS.
