Nintendo Remaking Either Zelda: A Link To The Past Or Majora’s Mask

Nintendo is planning to remake one of two The Legend of Zelda titles, and either choice seems like a huge reason to get excited. Even better, we’re not just talking about a 3DS remake, but a possible Wii U project.
Rich George, IGN‘s head honcho of Nintendo coverage, conducted an extremely in-depth and revealing interview with Shigeru Miyamoto talking about the possibility of re-releasing an updated version either A Link To The Past or Majora’s Mask. It sounds like it’ll be one or the other, though, and not both, which is criminal, but we’re still happy at the idea:
“We haven’t quite decided yet, whether we’re going to do A Link to the Past, because there’s also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask,” Miyamoto told [IGN] in an interview at E3 last week. “This is something we’ve certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we’re going to go.”
Miyamoto also said that a Wii U project could possibly be in the cards for a future Zelda remake, although the popularity and availability of each title may narrow down the process.
Just running down the list, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past has actually been remade and re-released several times. Not only is A Link To The Past available on the Virtual Console, but its Game Boy Advance (and Nintendo DSi) remake, Four Swords, went as far as including a multiplayer aspect that could be shared among four players at once.
Majora’s Mask, while not the most popular Zelda title in the franchise, has been a critical hit, seeing re-releases on the Virtual Console and as a pack-in GameCube game for The Legend of Zelda: Collector’s Edition.
Personally, I say do both. And a remake of Link’s Awakening—as part of a special bundle that would include the Link To The Past remake, with a limited edition engraved 3DS unit (assuming the new 3DS is out by then).
