Nintendo’s next big mobile game has just been announced: Fire Emblem Heroes.
The first mobile Fire Emblem game is the next step in Nintendo’s big push towards mobile gaming, and follows in the footsteps of Pokémon Go and Super Mario Run. The gameplay, however, is Fire Emblem to the core.
Heroes is a tactical RPG with the mobile benefit of being able to battle another player anytime, anywhere. Like the mainline Fire Emblem games, you’ll have a tile-based map (though to fit mobile screens, these maps will be 8×6 grids). Characters can be dragged from tile to tile, and combat will ideally be just as strategic as a full-fledged game. You’ll have to clear a map of enemies in order to claim victory.
Additionally, you’ll be able to summon some familiar faces to fight by your side. These newly hand-drawn and voice acted heroes can be summoned through orbs, which can be either won through gameplay or bought with real money at the in-game shop. The more you summon a hero, though, the fewer orbs you’ll need. You’ll need to train up your heroes to maximize their strength—especially when they end up in battles against heroes on your enemy’s side.
The mobile game will be available on Android and iOS devices February 2nd. Pre-registration opens up on Google Play on January 19th.
