Mario Kart

Nintendo’s talked up all the new features of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and now you can see them in action in the game’s new trailer.

Showcased in the video are the game’s new racers, including the Inkling Girl and Inkling Boy from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr. These appear in addition to the full roster of the original Mario Kart 8—including all of the DLC characters.

Also featured prominently is the game’s heavily revamped Battle Mode, which features a wide range of both classic and new game modes. You’ll find favorites like Balloon Battle alongside Renegade Roundup, Bob-omb Blast, Coin Runners, and Shine Thief, and you’ll be able to play across eight dedicated new courses.

Interestingly, a second Japanese trailer contains much of the same footage, but also makes note of a special wheel-shaped Joy-Con peripheral, similar to the racing wheel peripherals that were available with Mario Kart Wii. These will release on April 28th, the same day as the game itself, in Japan, but it’s not clear yet whether they’ll also be arriving in stores in North America.

There’s plenty to see in the trailer—including a subtle dab by Donkey Kong—so be sure to watch the full video to see all of the new stages, characters, and modes in action.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
