Nintendo: Wii U Can ‘Fend Off’ Both The PlayStation 4, Xbox 720

Even though it seems like the Wii U is only catching up to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in terms of graphical power, Nintendo president Reggie Fils-Aime isn’t worried. In fact, he likes the Wii U’s future odds.
In a chat with the Seattle Times, Fils-Aime declared that the incoming console would easily push Nintendo through the “next” console generation’s competition:
Q: Will the Wii U and its capabilities last you through the next console generation?
A: We think so. It’s based on having great graphics, it’s based on having a robust online execution. We believe that this system is going to have a very long life, and it’s going to be very well supported by third-party publishers.
Q: Can you fend off the Xbox 720 and PS4?
A: Once you talk about what that is, we can probably fend it off.
Although Nintendo’s main gimmick with the Wii is its media features that incorporate services like Miiverse and Nintendo TVii, most arguments about its power often drawn comparisons to the PS3 and Xbox 360.
If that’s the case, it looks like the Wii U will repeat the Wii’s practice of being the technologically inferior console, but with a new control scheme. That’ll only work if the console sells even half as much as the Wii, though.
