Scott Moffitt, a marketing executive at Nintendo of America, claims that Treyarch and Infinity Ward have the opportunity to enhance the Call of Duty experience by utilizing the Wii U’s GamePad controller.
Moffitt insists that Nintendo wants to sell to a hardcore audience with Wii U and the GamePad offers studios a new way to think when it comes to game design. ”Core gamers are very much part of our audience and the group of consumers we hope will find the way you can re-imagine games on the Wii U,” he said. ”The Wii U could become the preferred way to play those games for some of the core gamers.”
“You can imagine how a game like Call of Duty would work on the Wii U – the GamePad will allow you to declutter the TV and pull gaming items like maps down and not interrupt your interaction and enjoy the cinematic quality of the game on the TV,” he added. ”That’s one application that could be exciting and could enhance gameplay for a core gamer.”
This brings up a question that has surfaced time and time again with the Wii U GamePad, won’t it cause a distraction from what’s going on in-game? Having to keep glancing at the controller will surely pull you straight out of the game world, and in a fast-paced title like Call of Duty the last thing you want to be doing is taking your eyes off the screen to look at a map or switch weapons. There’s a reason these HUD elements are on the screen, so you never have to be pulled out of the action to see them.
Do you think the GamePad could be used in this way?
