BioWare has opted not to release any additional characters as DLC for Dragon Age: Inquisition because part of them would have to be shipped on the disc.
Some gamers have complained in the past that several games have forced them to pay to unlock DLC content that they already own, and BioWare wishes to avoid this issue. “Because of how deeply enmeshed in the system companion characters are, we can’t just add them on the fly, part of them has to be shipped on the disc,” creative director Mike Laidlaw explained to OXM. “Which has led to criticism that we’re forcing people to pay for content they already own.
“It’s not the case, but we’ve decided this time to not go that route. There will be no DLC party members.”
As a result of this, the nine party members that ship with the game will be the only ones available for its entire lifespan.
Dragon Age: Inquisition is set to release in Q3 of this year for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC.
