Free-To-Play Shooter “No Man’s Land” Launches On PlayStation Home

Posted on June 20, 2012 AT 12:29pm

Free-to-play multiplayer shooters on consoles aren’t that common—in fact, PlayStation is claiming that post apocalyptic No Man’s Land is the very first one, and it’s also hitting PlayStation Home today.

Curious timing, especially considering that there’s already so many other online shooters you can play via the PlayStation Network (would’ve been better as a console launch project), but still—a free game’s a free game.

Supporting 4-on-4 team battles and cover-based tactical combat, No Man’s Land is supported by in-game purchases of weapons and armor, while your in-game character is based on your PlayStation Home avatar. Personal customization is also mirrored outside of the game, so whatever you equip is visible in the main PS Home network.

Although there aren’t any PlayStation Trophies available, there are rewards given for specific in-game challenges. Aside from a standard deathmatch mode, No Man’s Land also has a team variant with “Scavenger” mode, as detailed by the PlayStation Blog:

In the Scavengers game mode teams must collect salvage packs from the depleted cityscape. These resources are all that are left of the old world. Each team must bring all the salvage to their ‘salvage dump’ before the other team does. This game mode is essentially capture the flag, but with multiple flags. Players earn points for placing salvage on their team’s salvage dump, for stealing enemy salvage, and for simply killing the enemy.

If you’re curious, Sony has provided the gameplay sizzle reel below for No Man’s Land below, complete with lots of gunfire, guys rolling around blown-out cars, and UNCOMFORTABLY LOUD GENERIC METAL MUSIC:
