No new Unreal Tournament entry in the works at Epic Games, co-founder confirms

Posted on March 20, 2014 AT 11:35am

A new installment of the Unreal Tournament arena shooter series is not currently in development, nor is one being planned, Epic Games co-founder Tim Sweeney confirmed during GDC (as reported by CVG).

“We have a lot of nostalgia for the game but we’re actually not developing anything in the Unreal game universe at all at the moment,” Sweeney said. And while Unreal Tournament may not be among them, Sweeney assured that “several other projects that aren’t announced yet…are being developed with Unreal Engine 4.”

Unreal Tournament 3, the last entry in the franchise, launched on Windows PC  and PS3 in 2007 (Xbox 360 in 2008), putting us closer to a decade since the last Unreal game. The series first debuted on Windows PC in 1999, and saw two subsequent sequels released in 2002 and 2004.
