In a new video for Rocksmith 2014 Edition, various guitar experts sound off about the game/learning tool’s efficacy as a method to learn how to play guitar.

“Playing any instrument is not easy—it hurts like hell when you first start playing. It takes a lot of dedication and a lot of work,” Alice in Chains lead guitarist Jerry Cantrell says in the video. “Having something like Rocksmith when I was a kid would’ve been something that I would’ve been very interested in.”

Online guitar teacher Marty Schwartz and Metalocalypse creator Brendon Small also sound off about RockSmith 2014, as well as Epiphone president Jim Rosenberg. All note how effective Rocksmith 2014 Edition is at appealing to beginner and experienced guitarists alike, reinforcing fundamentals while also dynamically adapting to a player’s skill level to never become boring and unchallenging.

Rocksmith 2014 Edition was announced during Ubisoft’s E3 2013 press conference. The tracklist includes tunes by Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Weezer, R.E.M., Mastodon, Paramore, Nirvana, Muse, and more. The music game (slash guitar learning device) launches on PC, Mac OS, PS3, and Xbox 360 October 22.
