Game companies don’t often get a “do over,” but on November 11 Square Enix will shut down the existing Final Fantasy XIV servers and ready them for a transition to the revamped Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
One October 31, character data will be saved for the last time, and the story will change to lead players into A realm Reborn. Shortly thereafter, the alpha test will go live and sometime after that a beta test. The game’s official launch date has not been announced. Square Enix clearly doesn’t want a repeat of the original FF XIV launch, so expect them to take their time getting this one off the ground.
The alpha test is only open to current FF XIV subscribers. Those interested should fill out the oficial application here.
