Now You Can Own This Rare Prototype Banjo-Kazooie Toy For $20K

How far does your nostalgia for Rare’s Banjo-Kazooie franchise run? Are you enough of a fan that you’ll pay an exhorbitant $20,000 on eBay for an extremely rare, one-of-a-kind prototype toy that’s never been mass produced or marketed by Nintendo?

If you happen to be sitting on thousands of dollars just burning a hole in your pocket, you could spend it on this:

This prototype figure was shown off in the Toy Fair in 2000, along with several other Nintendo prototype figures in the Nintendo line, like a Metal Mario, a Fox McCloud from Starfox, and Donkey Kong 64 figures. Toysite was responsible for several of the later BD&A Mario plushes that did release in 1999. This figure line was canceled when Toysite was shut down (BD&A no longer funded the branch), and prototypes were sold on [eBay] in 2001.

Apparently, it’s worth quite a bit of money to toy collectors, and the thing is extremely fragile. At one point, the toy was meant to have a feature that made Kazooie’s wings flap, but it was never implemented in the model.

Some offers made been made (and turned down) to the seller, but nothing’s stuck yet. Interestingly enough, the owner of this toy also runs the Video Game Memorabilia Museum website, a blog-style endeavor that tracks, appraises, and reports about video game merchandise and toys, both rare and new.

According to the video breakdown below, the Banjo-Kazooie prototype toy was apparently last handled in 2009, and was bought for less than $100, meaning the seller’s intending to make a ridiculous profit off a potential sale. You can check it out below, along with this incredibly frightening video tour of the seller’s entire collection.
