Oddword: New ’n’ Tasty!, a remake of the original 1997 Oddworld: Abe’s Oddyssey, will feature revamped music, sound effects, and voice work, according to Just Add Water’s latest developer diary.
“What we’re doing with New ’n’ Tasty is re-doing the original music, keeping to the same style and feel as the original,” audio engineer Mike Taylor said in response to a fan question. “The cut-scenes in the game are all brand new, and are being re-made from the ground up, so we’re getting new music written and rewritten for those scenes by Michael Bross.”
According to Taylor, they weren’t able to find the original Abe’s Odyssey sound effects, but even if they had, updating them to modern standard’s from 1997’s would have required heavy reworking. As for the voice work, Just Add Water turned to series creator Lorne Lanning to once again voice Abe and the Sligs.
“Who else would know best about how to keep the original rhythm and feel of the Abe/Mudokon ‘Hello/hello/Follow me/OK’?” Taylor mused.
Taylor says they also tapped fans to supply voice work for other Mudokons “as well as very special guests.”
Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty! launches on Windows PC, Mac OS X, Linux, PS4, PS3, and PS Vita (through PSN), and the Wii U eShop spring 2014.
