The official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account is maybe the only redeeming thing about Twitter at the moment. The Sega mascot’s social media presence recently took on the “Ugandan Knuckles” meme that’s been trolling VRChat, the hot new platform for copyright infringement and virtual reality weirdness.

Who is Ugandan Knuckles? The short version is that it’s a new meme derived from a racist appropriation of an African accent (complete with tongue clicking), based in part on an extremely low-budget Ugandan action movie that’s being used by VRChat players whose avatars are a goofy 3D model of Knuckles based on an illustration by YouTuber Gregzilla. If you want to feel really annoyed for no reason, just watch this.

Thankfully, Sonic the Hedgehog’s Twitter doesn’t stay silent when one of its characters is being used in such a stupid way, and fought one meme with another meme:

Yes, that is the Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter inviting trolls to donate to Ugandan charities with the “expanding brain meme.”

Of course, the tweet was met with a bunch of pro–Ugandan Knuckles replies, but what are you going to do? The world is a terrible place, as evidenced by the fact that the most reasonable person on the internet is whoever runs the Sonic Twitter.

Michael Goroff has been gaming for almost three decades. He's a lover of all games and systems, but he mostly plays Xbox. That being said, if he's a fanboy, he's a fanboy for the game industry as a whole. Spit white-hot fanboy hate at him, trash talk his Gold II rank on Rocket League, or maybe just send him a cordial hello on Twitter @gogogoroff.

Official Sonic Twitter has a classy response to racist VRChat meme

The internet is a sad, lonely place, but at least there's Sonic.
