Double Helix has announced that the free character for its Xbox One fighting game Killer Instinct has been switched from Thunder to Orchid.
The Xbox One reboot launched alongside the system in November as a free-to-play title. At the time players were allowed to play as Jago for free, but had to purchase the rest of the characters. In January the developer introduced a free character rotation system, which saw Sabrewulf become the free character. This later changed to Thunder and now Orchid.
Last week, the developer announced a new “Jail” system that would be added with the game’s latest patch. “Jail” is designed to punish players who regularly quit online matches. If a player has a DNF percentage over 15 percent after a minimum of 10 matches they will be placed in Jail. While in Jail, players can only play against other players who are in Jail and will have their profile picture changed to a custom Jail one.
Players will be punished for 24 hours for their first offence and this will increase by a further 24 hours for each subsequent visit—to a maximum of 120 hours.
