Ouya is in the final stretch of its Kickstarter run, with less than 10 hours left for people to back the project and secure their own open-source, Android-powered console. It’s been a hugely successful fundraising period for the development team, as the project has now topped 8 million dollars in total pledges.
Although the Ouya shot out of the gate with some insane “first week” numbers, the cash flow did slow down afterward.
However, several last-minute buyers are getting in before the Kickstarter doors officially close, with the team gaining an additional $1.5 million from backers during the last handful of days.
That success hasn’t gone unnoticed by major third party developers either, as the project’s latest update
“NAMCO BANDAI Games and OUYA are currently in active discussions to bring some of the world’s biggest gaming properties to the exciting new open gaming platform. NAMCO BANDAI brings with it a rich history of iconic gaming franchises, from classics like PAC-MAN and GALAGA, to seminal franchises like TEKKEN and Ridge Racer, and we’re excited to explore how we can work with OUYA to bring some great titles to the forthcoming console.”
– Carlson Choi, Vice President of Marketing, NAMCO BANDAI Games America, Inc.
If you want to see Tekken titles on the Ouya, both teams are supposedly taking in community feedback over on the Namco Facebook page. Additionally, updates on the console’s production and development (it’s slated for March 2013) will be posted by Team Ouya on “Facebook, reddit, Twitter, Google+” and at www.Ouya.tv, an upcoming home page for the new gaming system.
