More data mined audio files pulled from the depths of Overwatch allude to new mode possibly dropping in tandem with the Arena maps included in the game’s upcoming anniversary event.

Arena maps, like the game’s current Ecopoint: Antartica, are smaller competitive settings built for 1v1 or 3v3-style multiplayer modes. The three new maps teased for the game take place in settings of maps already active in the game, but newly data mined audio files suggest a unique mode available on the new maps that could challenge players to Gladiator-like survival against each other, based on Athena’s terminology in the sound bites.

Another plausible explanation is that the sound files instead reflect a rule change or expansion of the existing Arena mode now that it will support more than a single map.

Additional audio files of heroes discussing gear could also tease new loot for the game, likely to be rewarded for those that successfully conquer the new survival mode. This would be the first time Overwatch offered gear as a direct reward for playing specific content.

Previously data mined audio files from Overwatch also teased potential new maps for the game, but they didn’t seem to belong to any setting currently in the game, unlike these Arena maps.

In other Overwatch loot news, the game’s standard loot boxes are being updated to include a few more highly requested goodies.
