Update: Blizzard has also released a new story video highlighting Sombra’s backstory, as well as a gameplay preview. You can find both new videos at the bottom of the post.
Original Story: After months of being dragged along through an excruciating ARG, Sombra has been officially revealed at BlizzCon 2016 as the next hero in Overwatch.
Sombra’s animated short gives a look at her personality and utility as an offensive hero, but it also hints at the selection of weapons and abilities that she will wield in the game.
Her primary weapon is a small submachine gun for close-quarters combat, she can turn invisible with her Thermoptic Camo to seek up on unsuspecting enemies with an additional boost to speed, she can hack enemies to stunt their abilities or hack health packs to stop enemies taking advantage of them, and she can even teleport to a fixed location with the use of her Translocator mine.
Her ultimate ability is, appropriately, Sombra’s most intriguing talent. This EMP ultimate ability discharges a pulse that destroys enemy barriers and shields while hacking all opponents caught in the radius.
Those lucky few that attended BlizzCon 2016 will get to try out Sombra during the event, but the hero is finding her way onto the game’s PC PTR next week. Presumably, the character will launch for all versions of the game one or two weeks after that.
