The first tease for Overwatch‘s 30th hero has dropped, and unless Blizzard is pulling the wool over our eyes, the hero will be an ex-Talon healer.
The tease was posted to the Overwatch Twitter account, made up of a cryptic video and caption. The video depicts lines of code which are clearly being manipulated by the game’s hacker hero, Sombra, based on her symbol appearing at the end of clip. The caption message confirms the presence of a hacker, and references someone named Captain Cuerva, who gets more fleshed out in the linked log entry.
The log entry, posted to the official Overwatch blog, details a Talon mission led by Captain Cuerva. The purpose of the mission was to retrieve or execute a defector from Talon named Jean-Baptiste Augustin, who, according to the transcript, is one of the most deadly medics Cuerva ever trained. Prior to carrying out the mission, three Talon agents left the safe house, and all were captured (and presumed killed) by Baptiste.
Given Blizzard’s history of misdirection in its hero teasing, hero 30 being Baptiste seems too obvious, but it also seems unlikely that it would be anyone else in this story. It’s possible that this info is just backstory for the real hero that we’ll meet later, but the entire transcript is spent building up what a badass Baptiste is; it’d be a shame not to get to play him.

As for how Baptiste would play, the transcript gives us two fairly straightforward hints as to the character’s role. Being a medic, it would be dumb for the character to be anything other than a Support hero. More specifically, we know him to be a “good shot,” which could tease that the hero will be a hitscan healer, requiring aim to heal like Ana, but using shots that hit instantly, rather than having to travel to their target.
Whoever hero 30 turns out to be, we likely have a few more teases ahead of us before the full reveal, which we expect to drop next week. This week, players saw the full launch of the game’s newest Paris Assault map.
