This week saw the surprise addition of a never-before-seen Competitive 6v6 Elimination mode as part of Overwatch‘s Arcade weekly reset.
Every week, the game’s Arcade feature gets new modes rotated in, and has its loot box win bonuses reset. Currently, the primary modes featured in the Arcade are the two cooperative missions from the Archives event, but despite its lack of build-up, Competitive 6v6 Elimination made the cut as one of the Arcade’s new mode options.
Competitive 6v6 Elimination is live in the game right now, and will run until May 7th. All of its normal maps are playable, with the bonus addition of the Ayutthaya Capture The Flag map as an Elimination map.
6v6 Elimination Lockout, in its normal form, is a mode that has circulated around the Arcade scene for while. It challenges players to take out the enemy team in just one life, with round victories locking the heroes used, but this is the first that fans have seen of a competitive version. This follows a trend that has been common in the hero shooter’s second year, with other secondary modes like Lúcioball and Capture The Flag also getting competitive variants on their return.
In other Overwatch news, a cache of new Overwatch League skins are coming to any player that has picked up the League’s All-Access pass.
