Overwatch

Instead of condemning the popular, fan-made parody videos of himself, Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has revealed that he finds the videos very amusing.

When asked on an Overwatch Reddit thread what he thought of the videos, Kaplan acknowledged that they were a little embarrassing, but simultaneously hilarious.

“He is super talented. The videos are hilarious. Obviously, I feel embarrassed when I see them. I mean, I am this middle-aged, awkward nerd with 0 points in charisma and really don’t belong on camera in any way, shape or form. But if I look at the videos objectively—like if they were of anyone but me—they are hilarious.

I always say that Dinoflask says what I wish I could really say (like that old Key and Peele skit with Obama’s translator)”

The videos in question come from YouTuber dinoflask and involve video clips from various Kaplan developer updates cut together in a way that makes fun of things going on in the game or community at that time. The YouTuber’s work was even mentioned during Blizzard Entertainment’s GDC 2017 briefing, right before the reveal of the new hero, Orisa.

Nick didn’t start gaming until mid-2006. Once his parents finally allowed a console into the house, it was all uphill from there. Starting out with a PS2, he grew an affinity for Sony consoles and moved on to the PS3, and now the PS4. He keeps his gaming palette wide, but, gun to his head, he’d have to say shooters are his genre of choice. Find him on Twitter @idole808
