A new hero and new map are heading to Overwatch.
As Blizzard revealed during the opening ceremony at Blizzcon, Overwatch is due for a huge new batch of content in the coming weeks.
First up is Moira O’Deorain, a support character capable of dealing a ton of damage in a crisis. Moira wields two Biotic Orbs, allowing her to heal allies with the orb in her left hand and use the Biotic Grasp of her right hand to sap enemies’ health and recover her own energy. Moira can also launch a rebounding Biotic Orb and choose its effect: it can either heal the allies it passes through, or add a decay effect that deals damage to the enemies it touches. Moira’s Ultimate, Coalescence, extends her abilities into a long-range beam that both heals allies and damages enemies, even through barriers. Finally, Moira can Fade and teleport a short distance.
Moira is playable at Blizzcon, so we can likely expect to see her on the PTR fairly soon.
On top of that, there’s a new map heading to the game early next year. Dubbed BlizzardWorld, the map is a fun mashup of many of Blizzard’s games, re-imagined in a theme park. Fans of Blizzard games will spot references to Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, and more in this imaginary Blizzard-styled theme park that becomes the battleground for Overwatch‘s heroes and villains.
BlizzardWorld is a hybrid Assault and Payload map, and will be released in early 2018. We can expect it to be playable on the PTR “soon.”
