Overwatch‘s next map, Rialto, will be appearing in the game May 3rd.
The map, set in Venice, first appeared during the PvE Retribution event, but this current iteration of the map has been reworked for PvP. It’s been on the PTR for a few weeks already as an Escort map for PC players to test, and will be launching in full on May 3rd.
While the PvP version of Rialto is similar to the PvE Venice map that players saw during Retribution, it will have a few differences. According to Overwatch assistant Game director Aaron Keller (via PCGamesN), the new version of the map “has spaces that are totally unique that aren’t found in the mission map.” The map is also in full daylight, rather than the nighttime lighting of the PvE event, and Blizzard revealed that some changes will make it so that the map is set slightly farther in the future than its PvE counterpoint.
Overwatch‘s 10th competitive season kicked off earlier this week, but Rialto will not be playable in Competitive at first.
“This [delay] will help provide the community with plenty of time to learn how to play with the new map,” Blizzard wrote in a post detailing the new competitive season. A “future patch” will add the map to the rotation, though Blizzard didn’t give a release date.
The Rialto map will appear on all versions of the game, including Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, on May 3rd.
