The newest Lunar New Year event has arrived in Overwatch, celebrating the Year of the Dog with new character skins, returning multiplayer modes, and more.
A new trailer for the event reveals the six oriental-themed legendary skins players can unlock for heroes Mercy, Pharah, Genji, McCree, Zarya, and Widowmaker. Players can obtain these skins, along with the skins from last year’s Lunar New Year event, by purchasing them or earning them in loot boxes until the event ends. The event also introduces a number of new icons, victory poses, and more.
Players can take their new cosmetic content into a new Capture The Flag mode, also returning from last year’s event. It has undergone some tweaks for the new year, including the implementation of a new Sudden Death mechanic, and players can now show off their skills in the mode’s new competitive option. Capture The Flag can be enjoyed on any of the map variants from last year, as well as the event’s new CTF-exclusive map set in Thailand, Ayutthaya.
New maps, modes, and skins are not all that the Year of the Dog has to offer. Shortly before the event’s launch, Blizzard announced that a new feature would drop with the event, allowing players to switch character skins at the start of matches.
Overwatch‘s newest Lunar New Year event is now live across all platforms. The event will run for four weeks, ending on March 5th.
