Phantasy Star Online 2 has been a hot property for Sega this year, and they’ve got the numbers to back that claim more than before. According to the publisher, the MMORPG has 1 million registered players.
Keep in mind, the game is only out in Japan, where it’s been performing admirably—so much so, that Sega’s Consumer Business wing cut their Q1 2013 losses almost in half.
As Siliconera reports, Sega Japan is sharing their celebration with fans, giving away the following items:
- Two Alienware M14x laptops, branded with PSO2 designs
- Phantasy Star Series 25th anniversary concert tickets
- 1 million ID celebration t-shirts
- Signed posters
- Phantasy Star Series 25th Anniversary Sound Collection CDs
According to the official PSO2 site, there’s also going to be lotteries and other giveaways for pocketfuls of in-game currency. That’s actually many generous for the publisher, and hopefully Sega of America will have something similar up their sleeve if PSO2 hits those kind of numbers in North America.
We’ll find out when it ships over here in January 2013. Since the game is getting continued, staggered releases across PS Vita, iOS, and Android, it would be interesting if the subscriber base here didn’t match up Japan’s over time.
