Pikachu Yellow 3DS XL Pre-Orders Sell Out In Japan Stores On Day One

It looks like all you need to boost Nintendo 3DS sales is one good Pokémon-branded exclusive, as the ‘Pikachu Yellow’ 3DS XL prompted Tokyo locals to line up for hours outside the city’s Pokemon Center. And that’s just pre-orders.
Anime News Network reports via Inside Games that over 300 people waited outside the building for more than four hours to pre-order the special 3DS XL (or LL, in Japan):
Over 300 fans lined up at the Tokyo Pokémon Center by 10:00 a.m and the number grew rapidly throughout the day. The reporter from the Japanese website Inside Games arrived at the line 10:00 a.m. and did not get to the register until 2:30 p.m.
As a result, the Pokémon Center official website had to announce that all Pokémon Center stores in Japan had to stop taking pre-orders for the the special edition 3DS XL before the day was out.
That’s nuts.
Pokémon Centers in America will start taking pre-orders on September 15th, so at least now you know what the demand will be like on the first day. Only four Pokémon Centers exist in the U.S., located at Seattle, Washington (Northgate Mall, Alderwood Mall); Tacoma, Washington (Tacoma Mall); and New York’s Nintendo World Store.
