Platinum’s Anarchy Reigns Delayed Until Summer

THE BUZZ: While all of the talk this week has been about Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, another Platinum Games project is now in the news—thanks to being delayed.
Today, Sega officially announced that the multiplayer brawler Anarchy Reigns has been pushed back from its already-delayed release date of January 2012 until July 2012. More specifically, July 3rd in North America, july 5th in Australia, and July 6th in Europe.
The reason? Sega says it’s to give the folks at Platinum a chance to flesh out the game even more—which will include increasing the numbers of possible characters in fights.
“Anarchy Reigns brings a new take to the brawler genre, and we’ve decided to take a little more time to deliver the full knockout punch,” Knight teased. “I can’t reveal much now, but it’s something to do with scale. Let’s just say traditional one-on-one or two-versus-two fighters will be a thing of the past.”
EGM’s TAKE: To be honest, I’m not bothered by this delay. The summer months are usually dead for good games, so if this gives us something else to play at that point—instead of potentially having it lost in the crazy post-Christmas period—then good.
And if that extra time means a better game, then that’s nothing but a plus.
