Update: Seems that pre-purchase page for Titanfall was posted by accident, Polygon reports. A Microsoft spokesperson clarified that pre-purchase and pre-loading will not be available for the title. Best way to beat that 15-gig wait, then, is to buy a physical retail copy.
“We believe in digital distribution, and are proud to give gamers a variety of ways to purchase and experience their games,” a Microsoft spokesperson informed Polygon. “However, pre-purchase and pre-download for Titanfall for Xbox One will not be available from Xbox Store. We’ll continue to strike a balance between digital distribution and its benefits, while supporting physical games purchase through our retail partners.
“The pre-purchase offer page was posted in error. We apologize for any confusion.”
Original Story: According to the Titanfall page on Xbox.com, players who pre-purchase the game will be able to pre-load it prior to its March 11 launch.
That pre-load, of course, doesn’t mean Titanfall will be playable any time sooner than its proper launch date.
“You will be charged the full price immediately for this pre-purchase,” reads the listing. “Xbox One game expected to release on March 11th, 2014. You may download the game from Xbox Live before then, but it will not be playable until after 12:01 AM PST on the release date in your country.”
But since Respawn’s debut is 15.88 GB, the pre-load helps take the wait out of the equation for players looking to start rodeoing giant robots promptly at midnight (well, one or two minutes after).
No mention of when this pre-load will become available, however.
