THE BUZZ: Sony unveiled a new PSN program named “Only on the PlayStation Network,” which will allow you to buy exclusive content from the service. It has been mentioned that the service will include PlayStation 2 titles.
These games will not support trophies and will not be remastered in anyway, instead they will be straight ports of the originals. Sony completed a QA test of the service a few weeks ago in Liverpool, UK. Some key details include:
- No remastering, just smoothing/screen size options like PS1 emulation.
- Not all games are supported, shadow of memories & Hitman 2 are examples of games that just didn’t work, and they don’t plan to try and get them to work. They also seem to be covering a huge list of games, even fairly obscure ones like The Seed: warzone.
- No button remapping options, like PS1 emulation, for now.
- No trophies or anything along those lines.
It appears that this will be straight up emulation.
EGM’s TAKE: There has been no official word from Sony on the service so it’s unknown how many of these details are true, but anything that makes it easier for people to play a wider range of games can’t be all bad, right?
