Sony Computer Entertainment has pulled the latest PlayStation 3 firmware update following reports of it causing errors in a “small number” of consoles.

“We are aware of reports that the recent PlayStation 3 system software update (version 4.45) has caused the XMB to not display on a small number of PS3 systems,” a spokesperson told CVG. “We have temporarily taken 4.45 offline and are investigating the cause of the problem. We will announce when the system update is available for download as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Some users took to the official U.S. PlayStation forums to report their issues, which ranged from the console freezing at the boot screen to it being “bricked” entirely.

The update was put live earlier today and was meant to improve overall stability and allow users to toggle Trophy notifications via the System Settings.
