Lifetime worldwide shipments of PlayStation 3 have surpassed those of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, according to a new report.
According to GameIndustry.biz‘s summary of a 67 page report published by market research company International Data Corporation (IDC), PlayStation 3 shipments hit 77 million units in December 2012, compared to 76 million shipped Xbox 360 units.
The figures relate to units shipped not sold–so the Xbox 360 is still leading in that respect. IDC failed to specify exactly where the figures came from so their accuracy can’t be entirely trusted, but if true it signals good times for Sony who released the PlayStation 3 one year after the Xbox 360.
