PlayStation 4 firmware update 1.60 is set to go live “late tonight” adding support for wireless headsets, Sony has announced.
The update will add support for the Pulse and Pulse Elite Edition wireless stereo headsets, which offer 7.1 virtual surround sound and crystal clear voice chat. Sony also announced that its Gold Wireless Headset will release early this month for $99, offering 7.1 virtual surround sound, custom sound profiles created by developers for PlayStation titles, and other features for $99.
One developer to create a “custom sound profile” is Sucker Punch for inFamous: Second Son. A free Headset Companion App will be released for PlayStation 4 later this month, through which users can download these custom profiles.
“Audio is a critical part of the overall gaming experience, and because our headsets are made for PlayStation gamers, by gamers, you’ll truly hear the action the way it was meant to sound,” said John Koller, vice president of marketing at SCEA. “We’re also excited to introduce our new Gold Wireless Headset, which provides the actual audio experience that game developers created.”
