Sony is discounting “select” PlayStation 4 consoles during E3 week as part of a promotion running June 9th through 17th, according to a USA Today interview with Sony Interactive president Andrew House.
The price for these “select PS4 systems” will drop from $299 to $249, and there will also be additional discounts on software and accessories. The official prices for the normal PlayStation 4 and a few of its bundles is $299, but Amazon already has many of these systems listed at $249. One system we do know will be included in the sale is the brand-new gold PlayStation 4, which will normally retail for $299.
We’ll have to wait a few more days to see what other discounts Sony will be offering during E3.
The interview with House focused mainly on PlayStation VR, noting that more than 1 million pieces of PSVR hardware have been sold and that the average play session lasts 25 minutes. Most interestingly, according to the interview, Sony “plans to announce a new virtual reality experience for PlayStation VR built around Breaking Bad” at E3 and is working with the show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, on it.
