The PlayStation 4 will permit video capture of gameplay over HDMI, Sony announced during their Tokyo Game Show 2013 keynote.

Responding to a question on Twitter about the PlayStation 4’s HDMI capture functionality, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida acknowledged that support for this feature would not be available at launch, but rather patched in at a later detail.

Brad Douglas, who heads thirty-party relations for Sony Computer Entertainment, mentioned on Twitter that additional details regarding HDMI capture “will follow soon.”

This feature would be a separate, additional form of video capture beyond the console’s built-in Share technology, which lets players cycle through the last 15 minutes of gameplay to grab a screenshot or video clip.

The PlayStation 4 launches in North America November 15 and in Europe on November 29. Its Japanese release will come February 22, 2014.
