THE BUZZ: Sony has released a new trailer for the PlayStation Vita demonstrating what the handheld can do with a camera and some cards, otherwise known as augmented reality.

The trailer showcases Fireworks and Cliff Diving, both of which will be available to download on launch day.

EGM’s TAKE: While both of these look pretty fun, they are just gimmicks at the end of the day. Sure you’ll play them for 20 minutes in awe but then excitement wears off. Although it is a fantastic step in the right direction, now all we need for actual fully fledged games to take advantage of augmented reality. The diving board mini-game uses AR really well, but the fireworks one looks a little boring. The problem we’re having is that none of them seem as cool as a dragon popping up out of my table like the 3DS’ AR showcase. Hopefully Sony will build on these first games and release more intuitive ones later in the handheld’s life cycle.
