Pokémon has always been about battling the best trainers in the (game) world, but now you can test your best team against the lineups of the real-world Pokémon Video Game Championship’s elite. It’s part of the new mode in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 that brings back a collection of gym leaders and league champions from previous games, with cameos from notable characters.

In the trailer below, you can spot classic trainers like Gym Leaders Misty and Brock, rival character “Blue” from the original Pokémon Red and Blue titles, Sinnoh League Champ Cynthia, and even League Champion Steven Stone from Ruby and Sapphire.

Siliconera sheds some more light on this new tournament mode:

Today, The Pokémon Company shed a little more light on their future plans for this mode. World Tournament battles include single battles, double battles, triple battles and rotational battles, and using the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for the DS, more battles will be made available for the World Tournament mode.

As some extra incentive for those of you who participate in the yearly Pokémon Video Game Championships, there’s a spot in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2’s new mode for you, too. All you have to do place as a finalist in this year’s competition (which likely means placing and/or winning a regional qualifier or the nationals), and your Pokémon team will be featured in the game, distributed via Wi-Fi download.

It’s not clear whether you’ll get your own avatar for the game, but that would certainly be a cool inclusion. Thoughts?
