It turns out that Pokémon game director Junichi Masuda did have an important announcement to make this weekend, confirmation of the next official Pokemon games, Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2.
The games were surprisingly announced for the Nintendo DS and not the 3DS as many expected. The official U.S. website for the game is now live and features an image of two new legendary Pokemon set to appear in the games. The names of these are set to be revealed this week by Masuda.
EGM’s TAKE: Well this was unexpected, we believed that the announcement would be for a third game to accompany Black and White, similar to every other major set of Pokemon games. It’s very odd that the team has thrown this system out the window and developed direct sequels for the first time in the series’ history. Not only that, but the news that the games will be launching for DS and not 3DS. You would expect Nintendo to use a Pokemon game to skyrocket sales of their newest system. We’ll have to wait and see how this one turns out, hopefully Nintendo hasn’t made a mistake.
What do you think of the announcement? Should it be on 3DS? Let us know in the comments below.
