Update: The new Legendary boss, Regice, has started to appear in raids across the globe. Niantic has also sent out a follow-up announcement through Pokémon Go‘s notification system to trainers confirming Registeel and Regirock will make their way into the game. The other two Titans will begin appearing in the mobile game later this summer.
Original Story: Pokémon Go finally has a new Legendary headed to raid battles.
On June 21st, developer Niantic pushed out in-game notifications to players that revealed the Generation III Legendary Regice will soon be replacing Kyogre as the tier five raid boss. Reddit user Stevieee97 shared a screenshot of the announcement, which you can see below.
While trainers will have to wait for full details from Niantic, the notification stated the Ice-type Pokémon will be available to battle and capture until July 19th. It’s unclear when exactly Regice will land in raids, but with the Water Festival ending on June 21st at 1 p.m. PT, it’s likely players will see it arrive sometime after the event ends. Due to its typing, trainers should use Fighting-, Fire-, Rock-, and Steel-type Pokémon against it in battle, such as Machamp, Flareon, Tyranitar, or Aggron.
Regice is one of the three remaining Legendaries from the Hoenn region that hasn’t been featured in Pokémon Go. The mysterious Ice-type, alongside Regirock and Registeel, is part of the Legendary Titans trio originally found in the mainline games Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. With Regice debuting first in the mobile game, it’s likely the other two Titans will make their way into raids in August and September.
Also launching soon in Pokémon Go will be the new Friendship system. Trainers will be able to add their fellow players to a personalized friends list to trade Pokémon, share new items called Gifts, and help one another out in battle.
Pokémon Go is available for iOS and Android.
