Pokémon Go developer Niantic has announced an enormous surprise event for players. Soon, trainers will have a chance to find certain region-exclusive Pokémon locally, get another shot at a trio of Legendaries, and even bypass the current EX raid system.

As the final reward for Professor Willow’s summer 2018 Global Research Challenge, players will have access to three unique bonuses over the coming weeks. First, from September 13th at 1 p.m. PT until September 20th, the Generation I Legendary birds Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos will return to raid battles. While all three have been featured in previous Global Challenge rewards, this will be the best time for players to hunt for the shiny variants of the trio.

Then, the previously EX-exclusive boss Mewtwo will be available in all level five raids from September 20th until October 23rd at 1 p.m. PT. The month-long event will mark the first time the Legendary Psychic-type has been available to all players. Since last year, only trainers invited to participate in the convoluted EX raid system have been able to battle and capture the Pokémon, so this is huge news for those that have been unable to earn a pass.

The gifts just keep on giving, too. The regional Kanto Pokémon Farfetch’d, Kangaskhan, Mr. Mime, and Tauros will be able to hatch from the Friend Gift 7-kilometer eggs. According to a translation of the Japanese Pokémon Go Live post, trainers will have from September 14th through September 30th to hatch the regionals. However, the Alolan forms currently found in the Friendship-based eggs will also be in the pool.

While a few of the region-exclusive ‘mons have briefly appeared in other areas of the world before, the upcoming event will be the first time all Generation I regionals will be available globally. All trainers should hatch as many eggs as possible to find the exclusives, as it will likely be a long time until an opportunity like this will come around again.

Pokémon Go is available for iOS and Android.
