Despite Pokémon Go‘s Generation III event just ending, Niantic has now announced a Valentine’s Day celebration. The best part? There’s a new shiny Pokémon in the festivities.
According to Pokémon Go‘s official tweet, seen below, beginning today, February 13th, the Valentine’s-themed event will offer three times the usual amount of Stardust for each Luvdisc and Chansey caught in the wild. Thankfully, the spawn rates for both creatures will also increase, but only until February 15th.

However, the most significant incentive to get out there and hunt the heart-shaped Pokémon is the chance to get its new color variant. According to Reddit users, the shiny version of the Water-type Pokémon started to appear. For trainers worried they might have missed out on one without realizing it, shiny Luvdiscs are yellow, a noticeable change from its standard pink exterior.
While shinies don’t offer any stat boosts or competitive upgrades, they are the rarest types of Pokémon in the game. Also, there are only a handful of Pokémon currently in the mobile game with shiny variants, so the chance to capture a new one is that much more exciting. Recently, Niantic even centered an event around the hunt for shinies during the first Community Day. Not only could trainers capture special Pikachus with the unique Surf attack, but the chance of finding a golden Pikachu was also increased.
Pokémon Go is available on iOS and Android.
