Nintendo has announced that Pokémon X and Y have wracked up four million sales between them over just two days.

X and Y were the first titles in the Pokemon franchise to get global release, but even if you combine the regional sales of past Pokémon titles, X and Y are still the fastest-selling to date. Launch weekend sales were up around 70 percent compared to last year’s Black 2 and White 2.

Nintendo is hoping that these sales continue over the coming weeks to make X and Y the best selling Pokémon games of all time. The target to beat is 17.63 million units set by Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.

“Newcomers and longtime trainers alike should be able to find the joy in catching ’em all once again,” our own Ray Carsillo said in his Pokémon X and Y review.
