Nintendo’s Masahiro Sakurai has announced that the Pokémon Lucario is the 22nd character to be added to the Super Smash Bros. roster.
“The heroic Aura Pokémon, Lucario, joins the battle!! We’ve increased the influence of Aura this time, so a damaged Lucario is truly a force to be reckoned with,” he wrote in a Miiverse post.
Lucario debuted in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, where he was deemed one of the game’s strongest fighters due to his Aura move—which became more powerful as Lucario took damage. Leading many players to purposly take damage so they could unleash a devastating counterattack.
“Lucario joined the battle for the first time in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which was released six years ago,” Sakurai added. The production staff of Brawl worked really hard to expand the character roster–without their efforts, Lucario probably never would have joined the battle.”
Super Smash Bros. is set to release later this year for Nintendo Wii U and 3DS.
