The wait is finally over. We now know the exact specs of Microsoft’s upcoming console, codenamed Project Scorpio.

According to Digital Foundry, Project Scorpio comes equipped with a custom eight-core AMD CPU running at 2.3GHz, a GPU with 40 customized compute units at 1172MHz, 12GB of GDDR5 memory with 326GB/s of bandwidth, a 1TB 2.5-inch hard drive, and a 4K UHD Blu-ray disc drive. An easier to read layout of the full specs can be found below:

  • CPU: Eight-core custom clocked at 2.3GHz
  • GPU: 40 computized compute units at 1172MHz
  • Memory: 12GB GDDR5
  • Memory Bandwith: 326GB/s
  • Hard Drive: 1TB 2.5-inch
  • Optical Drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray

To offer a comparison, the PlayStation 4 Pro has an eight-core Jaguar CPU running at 2.16GHz, a GPU with 36 compute units at 911MHz, and 8GB of GDDR5 memory with 218GB/s of bandwidth.

Specs and numbers are all well and good, but what does it mean in terms of gaming performance. Well, according to Digital Foundry, Microsoft is promising that all Xbox One games running at 900p and 1080p will run at native 4K on Project Scorpio. Microsoft also offered a brief demonstration of Scorpio running a ForzaTech demonstration at native 4K and 60FPS, with room to spare on GPU utilization.
