PlayStation Plus subscribers have had over a week to download and play the first free game offerings of 2018, including the featured PlayStation 4 titles Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Batman: The Telltale Series. However, alongside the other PlayStation titles were also two PlayStation Vita games, one of which, Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, was mistakenly listed as cross-buy. While the Vita version is still available globally, the PlayStation Blog has had to clarify where players can find the PlayStation 4 version of the game, and sadly, it’s only in North America.
While the visual novel game from 5pb was released for both PlayStation 4 and Vita in 2015, it strangely never received PlayStation’s cross-buy option, which allows players to purchase a game available for both consoles for one system and receive a download code for the other. When the PlayStation Blog revealed the free titles heading to gamers in January, Psycho-Pass was still listed as cross-buy, which was recently updated to reflect the game being available separately.
What’s odd, though, is that while the game is available worldwide on both systems ordinarily, PlayStation Plus is only allowing North American subscribers to play the PlayStation 4 version. There are no further details as to why the region-lock was put on the console version, but for now, players outside of the area will have to enjoy the game solely on Vita. The other Vita game available, Uncanny Valley, does offer the cross-buy option, though, which is a hopeful sign PlayStation Plus isn’t going to make all cross-buy games’ different versions locked to regions.
Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness offers a more relaxed gameplay style, as the player essentially makes occasional choices to move the visual novel’s narrative along. As previously mentioned, PlayStation 4 players can try out the first-person stealth game Deus Ex: Mankind Divided or Batman: The Telltale Series‘ episodic adventures for a more hands-on experience from January’s PlayStation Plus offerings. Also, PlayStation 3 owners can check out Sacred 3 and The Book of Unwritten Tales 2.
