PS Vita’s Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Seems To Be Missing A Game

Posted on June 8, 2012 AT 04:31pm

Konami’s new trailer for the PS Vita release of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection brings up an interesting question. What the heck is the deal with these things not including the first Metal Gear Solid title?

Sure, the trailer’s brief history of the franchise is cool to see laid out in the video, but it’s just a little weird that the whole thing starts with the PlayStation 2-era. Is the original Metal Gear Solid (or barring that, the Twin Snakes remake) really that hard to port to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation Vita?

Currently, Metal Gear Solid only exists as a PSN Classic. It can’t be that hard to slap it into the collection, but then again, Sony would probably prefer you pay for it there.

And as for Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes, that one has never been ported outside of the Nintendo GameCube release, so it’s either a licensing issue or a technical thing.

Just like the PS3 and Xbox 360 version, it’s a shame. Being able to take one full sweep of the MGS arc that makes use of the PS Vita’s touchscreen and “transfarring” tech would definitely push some more sales—I’d be running to the store on June 12th.
