‘PS4 Link’ App Coming to PlayStation Vita Alongside Handheld’s Next Firmware Update

Posted on October 7, 2013 AT 01:45pm

The PlayStation 4′s companion app will be added to PlayStation Vita with the handheld’s next firmware update, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida revealed on Twitter.

Referred to as the “PS4 Link,” the app complements the console by allowing users to make purchases remotely, which automatically turns on their console to begin downloads (which then shuts down upon completion), send messages to PlayStation 4 players, and manage multiplayer invites. The app was originally announced for iOS and Android devices.

In a recent interview with GamesIndustry International, Yoshida said that Sony is taking a new approach to smartphone and tablet content, and specifically mentioned a concentrated effort at their expansion in “the PlayStation ecosystem.”

The PlayStation app will presumably launch on iOS and Android devices as well as the PlayStation Vita in time for the PlayStation 4′s launch on November 15 (November 29 in Europe).
