PS4 Turns Itself On Remotely to Start Downloading New Game Purchases

Posted on August 29, 2013 AT 12:02pm

The PlayStation 4 will turn itself on remotely to start downloading new content that players purchase on their smartphone, Sony confirmed.

Taking question on Twitter about how the PS4 smartphone app would work, Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida said, “When you buy a PS4 game on smartphone, it will wake your PS4 up to start downloading the game. PS4 goes back to sleep after that.”

This functionality, of course, requires the PlayStation 4 in question to be connected to the Internet in order to receive these instructions from afar.

The PlayStation 4 launches November 15 in North America, November 29 in Europe.
