PlayStation 4’s next update, 1.70, is “coming soon,” according to Sony. The update will introduce a new video editor app called SHAREfactory, the ability to export files to USB, and an option to pre-download pre-ordered games.
“With SHAREfactory, you can now easily combine your captured video clips for editing, personalize them with special effects using filters, transitions, and themes, as well as share them with your friends and social networks,” Scott McCarthy, Director, Product Planning & Software Innovation, SCEA, wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “SHAREfactory also allows you to personalize your videos by adding text, stickers, and a set of included audio tracks, as well as video commentary with picture-in-picture capability with PlayStation Camera. It also allows you to import your original music to add to the custom soundtrack for your video.”
As well as this rich new editor, update 1.70 allows users to export their saved screenshots and videos to a USB drive. Other Share improvements include the ability to record shorter gameplay videos, the ability to select who you share videos with, and the option to turn off HDCP.
Finally, the update adds the ability to pre-downloaded pre-ordered games “up to several days prior to release.”
“As I mentioned earlier, some of these features were a direct result of the great feedback we’ve been getting from you, our dedicated gamer community,” McCarthy added. “We enjoy listening to your comments, and encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts with us. And this is just the beginning. We’ve got a lot more coming in PS4 system software update v1.70 and beyond.”
