While Microsoft clearly came to the table with the more focused digital strategy this generation, Sony has really put a lot of effort into building out their own plans. Those efforts seem to be paying off, as the PlayStation Network’s most recent quarter was its biggest ever.
Speaking to GamesIndustry, VP of PlayStation Home and Handheld Consoles John Koller talked about how big of a deal the PlayStation Plus service has become for Sony. He said that it’s a great asset not only for Sony and their PlayStation platforms, but also consumers new and old making use of the service on those platforms.
In connect to those efforts with PS+, GamesIndustry notes that a spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment America told them that the PlayStation Store saw its biggest sales period ever last quarter.
“The success of PS Plus is contributing in a big way to driving overall PSN sales, as our last quarter was the biggest in terms of transactional sales in PSN’s six-year history,” she stated. “The immediate consumer reaction was completely off the charts, and membership sales more than doubled during the week of E3.”
